Partner information
TellThem.nz is a free notification service to help people let their sexual partners know they may need an STI test.
Why did I receive this?
When someone is diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI), they are usually asked to let sexual contacts from the past 3 months know they may be at risk. Some people use this website to send that message anonymously by SMS or email.
What should I do?
- Get tested. Visit your GP, a sexual health clinic, or Family Planning. Testing is often free at public sexual health services.
- Don't panic. Not everyone who is notified will have an infection — but testing is the only way to know.
- Get treated if needed. Most STIs are easily treated with antibiotics.
- Retest in 3 months if you continue to have new partners.
Questions? Call the STI helpline: 0508 11 12 13
- Wouldn't I have symptoms if I had an STI?
- Not always. Many STIs have no symptoms. Testing is the only way to tell.
- Will I definitely have an STI?
- No. Many people notified through this service test negative. But getting checked is still important.
- Who sent the message?
- Someone diagnosed with an STI used TellThem.nz to notify you. We do not collect or store the sender's name or phone number.
- Shouldn't they have to identify themselves?
- Research shows people are more likely to notify partners when they can do it anonymously. The goal is to protect your health.
- What if I think I'm being harassed?
- That is not okay. If you believe someone is misusing this service, you can report it or contact Police or Netsafe. We cooperate with police investigations by providing stored IP and timestamp data.
- Can I stop messages being sent to me?
- Yes. Block your mobile or email from receiving future messages from this service.
